Were 3/2 ARMORED CAVALRY REGIMENT ( 2nd ACR) SCOUTS AUTHORIZED THE Cavalry Stetson WITH THEIR DRESS UNIFORM?
Hi I was a 19D1P Cav Scout with the 2nd ACR (Killer Troop) for about a month before I deployed to Bosnia. I was at the end of my enlistment and ETSd from Bosnia so the occasion to wear a Stetson with my dress blue uniform never came up. I know you have to earn spurs and that Stetsons are authorized to all Cav Scouts but the determining factor on if you can wear it is based on your Units rules. My question is: Were all Cav Scouts with 2nd ACR during the years of 1997 and 1998 authorized to wear the cavarly stetson with their dress uniform (during formal functions of course)? Was 2nd ACR one of such units that authorized the stetson for its scouts with the dress uniform? This question is unit specific so I would like someone who was actually in the 2nd ACR to answer this question (preferably a fellow Cav Scout). SCOUTS OUT! and thanks!
I've been a Armor officer for the last 18 years, MOS 19
Although I was never in that particular unit, when you use the term "authorized", its laden with what I might call an informal assessment of what it practical and reasonable.
The wear of the spurs and hats are NOT in the Army uniform regulations. The wear of these items is strictly a local initiative of the unit and no other unit can dare beef about it. That said, the Army allows a certain amount of local initative as given by the local Commanding General.
My observation would be if the Cav Scouts were wearing them back in 1997 and 1998 were LOCALLY authorized to wear the spurs and the Cav hat. Remember there are two types of spurs and USUALLY the unit CSM awards them at a unit function.
Does this help to any degree, yes or no?
